Gardaí are appealing for information in relation to two serious assaults on women in Dublin over the past two years, which they believe are linked.

They say there is a definite forensic link between them and there are also similarities in terms of the means of attack.

The first assault happened on 18 September 2010 at the Chandler Apartments on Arran Quay.

A woman was followed into the complex where she lived. Her male attacker knocked her to the ground and tried to choke her and then sexually assaulted her.

Gardaí want to talk to a man seen on CCTV footage on nearby Inns Quay.

The second case happened next to the victim's home at the Monastery Estate in Clondalkin. She was attacked from behind by a man and pushed to the ground.

The victim managed to fight off her assailant.
