A garda sergeant has been found guilty at Dublin District Court of sexually assaulting a female colleague at a Dublin garda station.

The sergeant, who is in his 40s and cannot be named by order of the court, was charged with assaulting the woman on two occasions in March and June 2010.

He denied the charges.

In his evidence, the sergeant said that on the first incident in March 2010, he had accidentally brushed past the garda.

He said that it was embarrassing and in an attempt to lighten the mood he said: "Do you like that?"

He accepted that was an inappropriate remark.

However, he denied there was any deliberate contact or any sexual aspect to the incident.

The sergeant denied touching the garda's breast in June 2010.

He said he had touched her on the rib cage as he went by and told her to wake up as he thought she was asleep.

Judge Bridget Reilly said there was deliberate, indecent touching on both occasions without the consent of the garda.

She convicted the sergeant on both counts. He will be sentenced next week.
