A 30-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of another man in a "road rage" attack in Dublin in September 2010.
Karl Donohue, of Fisherman's Wharf, Ringsend, Dublin 4, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Raymond Bates at the junction of Sandymount Road and Tritonville Road in Sandymount but he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
The prosecution said it accepted the manslaughter plea.
Donohue's Senior Counsel, Brendan Grehan, said he wanted to take this opportunity to apologise to the family of Raymond Bates.
He said a moment of madness on his part had ended Mr Bates' life and ruined his own. He said he wanted to apologise for his actions.
The court directed the preparation of a probation report and victim impact reports.
Donohue was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 16 April.
Mr Bates, a father of three from Durham in England, was 49 at the time of his death. He had been working in Ireland on a gas pipeline.
He sustained serious head injuries in the assault in Sandymount on 26 September 2010 and died in hospital four days later.
