Gardaí arrested two men in Cork as part of an ongoing investigation into dissident republican activity.

Ongoing garda investigation into dissident republican activity

Two men were arrested in Cork as part of an ongoing investigation into dissident republican activity.

The men, aged 45 and 32, were arrested in the Watergrasshill area, north of the city, just after 8.30am this morning.

A handgun was also recovered during the operation.

Gardaí also carried out a search of a nearby wooded area.

The men are being held at Cobh Garda Station.
