Convicted murderer Brian Kearney has been refused permission to take a final appeal against his conviction to the Supreme Court.

Kearney, 54, was found guilty in March 2008 of the murder of his wife Siobhan at their home in Goatstown in Dublin in February 2006.

His appeal was dismissed by the Court of Criminal Appeal and his lawyers asked the court to allow them to bring a point of law to the Supreme Court.

This morning the Court of Criminal Appeal ruled that it was not satisfied that the application involved a point of law of exceptional public importance.

It also ruled that it was not satisfied that it was desirable in the public interest that an appeal be taken to the Supreme Court on the point of law.

He refused Kearney's application. Brian Kearney was not in court at the time.
