Pearse Hutchinson dies at the age of 84

The death has taken place of the poet and broadcaster Pearse Hutchinson, aged 84.

Mr Hutchinson was a regular broadcaster on RTÉ from the late 1940s.

He presented the programme ''Óro Domhnaigh'' for a number of years and was a columnist with the RTÉ Guide for more than two decades.

He also worked for the Irish Press newspaper and as a freelance critic for other publications, including The Irish Times.

He was one of the editors of the literary journal ''Cyphers'' and was a member of Aosdána.
