Gardaí are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a post office in Co Waterford.

Two men armed with a firearm and hammer entered the post office in Lismore at around 10am and threatened staff.

The raiders fled the scene with a 'cash bag'. No-one was injured in the incident.

Two men aged in their 20s and 30s were later arrested in the Dungarvan area when gardaí stopped a car.

They are being held at Dungarvan Garda Station.

Gardaí believe the 'cash bag' taken during the raid only contained documents and not cash.
