Copyright restrictions on major works by Irish author James Joyce were today lifted in Europe.

Up until now the reading of his work in public had been significantly curtailed.

Many literary events will take place throughout 2012 to mark the change, including Bloomsday 2012.

Meanwhile, Dubliners will be encouraged to read the book of the same name as part of the 'One City, One Book' campaign in April.
