Eight students from NUI Maynooth who have occupied the constituency office of Fine Gael TD Anthony Lawlor in Naas, Co Kildare, have said they are there for the long haul.

The students said they are highlighting their fear that student maintenance grants may be cut in next week's Budget.

The students have been asked to leave Deputy Lawlor's office but have refused.

The President of the Students' Union at NUI Maynooth, Rob Munnelly, is one of those involved.
