Glasnevin Cemetery is appealing to the families of 39 Irish servicemen and women who fought and died in World War I and World War II to attend this year's Armistice ceremony.

The burial and military records of these 39 soldiers were revealed last month - all have received new gravestones at the cemetery.

Two years ago, Glasnevin Trust and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission undertook a project to mark the 208 such graves at Glasnevin Cemetery.

85 headstones have so far been erected - the graves of a another 104 servicemen and women have also been identified

"Unlike the 43 servicemen and women honoured with gravestones last year, these 104 graves were purchased by the families of the deceased servicemen and women at the time of their burial.

"The CWGC, whose mission is to formally commemorate the graves of all deceased servicemen and women, is seeking the approval of these families to commemorate the graves in honour of their deceased relatives’ roles in the two world wars."

Glasnevin Trust says it is appealing to the families of all 208 servicemen and women to attend this year's Armistice Ceremony.

The ceremony will take place at 3pm on 11 November at O’Connell Tower in Glasnevin Cemetery.

British Ambassador to Ireland Julian King will take part in the rededication of two war memorials which have been moved closer to the cemetery's main entrance on the Finglas Road.

"If you are unsure about your family’s links to these noble men and women then please contact our historian Shane MacThomais or use our online genealogical search facility," said Glasnevin Trust Chairman John Green.

A full list of the 208 deceased servicemen and women is on the Glasnevin Trust website.
