Police in Belfast are investigating a sectarian incident in the east of the city last night during which a child was injured.

A large group of men attacked a house in the Derwent Street area with hammers. The incident occurred shortly after 8pm.

A man and a young girl were in the house at the time of the incident.

It is believed the girl received a cut to her forearm as a result of broken glass.

Sinn Féin Councillor Niall Ó Donnghailem has said "over 15 masked men" were involved in last night's attack.
