The Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement has been granted a court order requiring a witness in its investigation into Anglo Irish Bank to produce certain documents and information.

The Leinster Leader reported that the order means property developer Gerald Conlan must produce the information, which relates to an Anglo loan given to him to buy shares in the bank in July 2008.

The ODCE is investigating loans made by the bank to ten of its customers to buy shares in the bank in 2008.

It has already sent a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions on this aspect of its investigation.

The ODCE said Mr Conlon had earlier declined to make himself available to the office in its investigations of possible company law offences by Anglo.

At today's hearing, however, it was indicated on behalf of Mr Conlan that he would be complying with any court order made.

A detective inspector of An Garda Síochána attached to the ODCE made the applications under the Criminal Justice Act 2011.

The ODCE said this was the first time orders had been obtained under new provisions in the Act since they became law in early August.
