A garda sergeant has appeared in court charged with sexually abusing two female colleagues at a Dublin garda station last year.

The garda sergeant, who is in his 40s, was summonsed to appear before Dublin District Court.

Inspector Jim Flood told the court that it is alleged that on 21 March 2010 the accused pressed himself against a woman and made a sexually explicit comment.

Inspector Flood also said the sergeant is alleged to have pressed his hand against the same garda's breast while she was in an office on 2 June last year and told her to “wake up there”.

He is also accused of grabbing another garda’s thigh as she tried to return a digital camera to a locker.

When she screamed, the court was told, the sergeant also made another lewd comment.

The accused did not speak during the hearing this morning and Judge Bridget Reilly ordered that neither he nor his place of work were to be identified.

She accepted jurisdiction of the case, which means it will be heard in the District Court, and the sergeant was remanded to appear again on 24 October.
