Gardaí have said the preliminary results of a post mortum on the body of a man found in Macroom, Co Cork suggest he died as a result of injuries which he received in an assault.
The dead man has been named as 42-year-old Don Geasley, who was unemployed and single.
He was originally from Cork city and for the past year had been living at the rented house at Masseytown in Macroom where his body was discovered yesterday.
A forensic examination being conducted by members of the Garda Technical Bureau is continuing and detectives have also been conducting door to door inquiries in the area throughout the day.
Investigating gardaí are appealing to people who may have seen Mr Geasley in Macroom between 6pm on Wednesday and 10am on Thuersday to contact them at 02620590.
A man arrested as part of the investigation into Mr Geasley's death has now been released.
