The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group has confirmed that a sperm whale has stranded on the Cunniger sandspit, off Dungarvan in Co Waterford.

It is the same mammal that came close to stranding on the east side of the Hook Peninsula last night at Fethard harbour just north of Baginbun Head.

The IWDG says the mammal is still alive, male and approximately ten metres long.
