The Health Service Executive has exceeded its budget by €208m for the first six months of the year.
The HSE's latest monthly performance report for June has shown that hospital overspending accounts for €124m of the total, up by €4m on the May figure.
It said that there has been no improvement in the underlying rate of expenditure in June.
Community care services have overspent by €31m and the overspend for care of older people was €11m.
The cost of employing agency doctors has increased by 33% due to the shortage of junior hospital doctors.
