A Belfast court has heard how a man accused of breaking into a bookmakers in the city was arrested after police were alerted by a surveillance firm in England.

38-year-old James Bonner is charged with the burglary of a branch of Ladbrokes on the Springfield Road in west Belfast.

Police were told about the alleged burglary by a private alarm company in England who were monitoring the premised by remote controlled cameras.

The court was told Mr Bonner was detained running away from the scene.

His lawyer argued that police had not seen the accused in the bookmakers.

Mr Bonner, who denies the charge, was remanded in custody after the judge said he was not a suitable candidate for bail.
