A protest of over 1,000 people has taken place at today's Connacht Senior Football final over the closure of the hospital's emergency department.

Protesters carried white crosses from Casey's Roundabout to Dr Hyde Park ahead of the game between Mayo and Roscommon.

The demonstration, organised by the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee, did not cause serious disruption to traffic or the match, which got underway at 2pm.
