The Irish Medical Council has agreed draft rules for the temporary registration of non-EU junior doctors in Ireland.

The measure is aimed at easing the shortage of 150 junior doctors in a number of hospitals countrywide.

Around 200 doctors from India and Pakistan are due in Ireland to take up the posts.

The draft rules will now be subject to public consultation for one week.
