Gardaí have arrested an alleged al-Qaeda sympathiser in Dublin.

The 44-year-old was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill.

He is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Store Street Garda Station.

The arrest comes after a number of threats in relation to the forthcoming visit of US President Barack Obama were published in a Sunday newspaper last weekend.

The man is known to gardaí and has been interviewed by detectives a number of times in the past. He can be questioned for up to three days.

Three other men arrested by detectives from Mountjoy today as part of an investigation into the activities of dissident republicans are still being detained.
