A 40-year-old man has been brought before Birr District Court charged with the murder of a woman in Mountrath, Co Laois.
Jason Daly of PJ Delaney Flats, Main Street, Mountrath, was charged with the murder of Diane Burroughs.
Ms Burroughs' body was found in a flat in the town on Saturday night. She died as a result of strangulation.
Judge Catherine Staines remanded Mr Daly in custody and with a recommendation that he be given medical and psychiatric care.
He will appear before Cloverhill District Court on Thursday.
