The family of a missing Dublin woman are anxiously waiting to find out if it is her skeletal remains that were found in a park in Finglas yesterday.

Bernie Gavan, 58, went missing in August 2007.

Human remains were found in a park in Finglas in Dublin yesterday.

Gardaí believe the remains may be those of a female and could have been at the location in the Tolka Valley Park for up to three years.

An item of woman's clothing was found with the remains, which were discovered in bushes at the base of an electricity pylon.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy carried out an initial examination at the scene.

Gardaí are understood to be considering whether the services of a forensic anthropologist might be required to help with identification.
