Lawyers for Ian Bailey have told the High Court he wishes to appeal the decision to extradite him to France in connection with the death of French filmmaker Sophie Toscan Du Plantier.
Mr Bailey's legal team was granted an adjournment to 29 March next when the application for leave to appeal will be made.
Counsel for Mr Bailey, Ronan Munro, said points of exceptional public importance must be established to be granted leave to appeal and he believed this was such a case.
He asked for more time to prepare the application after hearing the State would not be consenting.
Mr Justice Peart asked both sides to make written submissions before the hearing on 29 March.
Last Friday, Mr Justice Peart ruled that the 53-year-old could be surrendered to French authorities who want to prosecute him in connection with the death of Ms Du Plantier in Cork 14 years ago.
Mr Bailey was arrested twice here during the investigation into the killing but was never charged.
He has always denied any involvement in the French woman's death.
