A mother and daughter are being questioned this morning about the seizure of 14kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of a €1m.
The drugs were brought in from the Caribbean through Dublin Airport on separate flights concealed in luggage.
Gardaí and Customs officials say the seizure is the result of a joint investigation into the use by South American cocaine cartels of couriers to traffic the drug into Ireland
The mother and daughter - aged 44 and 23 - arrived on separate flights from the Caribbean island of St Lucia and booked into a Dublin city centre hotel.
They were kept under surveillance and customs officers at Dublin Airport initially seized 9kg of cocaine glued into the base of a luggage bag.
When officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit raided the hotel room, another 5kg of the drug was discovered - bringing the total value of the seizure to at least €1m. Gardai say the purity of the drugs is over 80%.
The mother and daughter are still being questioned at Finglas Garda Station.
