A 30-year-old man has appeared before a special sitting of Drogheda District Court today charged with murder following the death of a Pakastani national in the town.

Shahzad Hussain was remanded in custody and is due to appear back before the court next week.

Gardaí were called to an apartment complex off Dyer Street in Drogheda on Thursday last after a man and woman were stabbed.

Both were initially taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital before the 32-year-old old man was transferred to St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, where he later died.

Mr Hussain with an address at Fitzwilliam Court in Drogheda was today charged with the murder of Muhammad Arif at Fitzwilliam Court between 6 January and 7 January.

Detective Garda Seamus Nolan gave evidence of arresting and charging the accused in Drogheda Garda Station earlier today.

Garda Superintendent Gerry Smith, asked for the defendant to be remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next week.

Judge Flann Brennan remanded Mr Hussain in custody to appear before the court next Wednesday.
