Loyalist Michael Stone has failed in his attempt to overturn his convictions for trying to assassinate Sinn Féin leaders Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness just over four years ago.

Northern Ireland’s Court of Criminal Appeal today upheld a verdict that Stone's actions at Stormont in November 2006 were capable of constituting an attempt to murder the politicians.

The 55-year-old was jailed for 16 years in 2008 for the attempted murders and other offences, including possessing explosives and an array of weapons.
