Revenue has issued details of tax collected last year, which show that its special investigations netted €2.65 billion for the Exchequer.
This included interest and penalties on tax recovered.
€961m came from Revenue's investigations into offshore assets.
€482m came from its probe into life assurance products.
The tax body carried out more than 11,000 audits, which brought in almost €435m.
The amount of audits carried out was down from 2009, when 12,400 audits netted almost €600m.
Over 178m cigarettes were seized by revenue last year valued at just over €75m.
Cannabis, cocaine, heroin and other drugs worth €9.2m were also seized.
Exchequer figures released earlier this week showed that the total tax take last year fell by €1.3bn to €31.75 billion.
