Customs officers have seized 12 million cigarettes in two separate operations at Dublin Port.

Last night officers and gardaí seized a container and a van containing approximately four million Marlboro Light cigarettes.

The container, shipped from China, was listed as containing alloy wheels.

One man was arrested at the scene, and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

In an operation this morning, officers seized a container holding approximately eight million John Player Blue cigarettes.

Retailers Against Smuggling, the representative group for Ireland's tobacco retailers, issued a statement commending the work of the Revenue's Customs Officials.
