Four gardaí accused of beating a young man with batons after breaking into his flat in Dublin in 2008 have been sent forward for a retrial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in June next year.

A previous trial collapsed due to legal difficulties.

Sean O'Leary, Eoin Murtagh, Alan Conlon and Claire Delaney, who were stationed at Kilmainham and Kevin Street, have denied entering a flat at Basin Street Upper and assaulting Owen Gaffney on 17 February 2008.

Three of the gardaí had also denied the false imprisonment of his mother, Fidelma Gaffney, by locking her in a bathroom.
