A 34-year-old man has been wounded in a shooting incident in Kenagh, Co Longford.

Gardaí said the man was attacked by another man wearing a balaclava, with what appears to have been an improvised firearm at a house in the townland of Carrigan.

The victim received wounds to the abdomen.

He was taken to Mullingar Regional Hospital where his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

During a search of the house a suspicious device was discovered.

The army bomb disposal team was called to the scene. The immediate area has been sealed off. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
