A 29-year-old man has appeared at a special sitting of the District Court in Tullamore charged with the manslaughter of Offaly publican Matt Farrell in April of last year.
Eddie Wing with an address at Limerick Street, Roscrea, Co Tipperary was arrested by gardaí in Roscrea yesterday evening and charged with the manslaughter of Mr Farrell at the Gaelic Bar, Daingain, on 1 April 2009.
The 64-year-old ran the pub, located beside the Grand Canal, for over 30 years.
Mr Wing was also charged with burglary at the bar at the same address and at three other premises in counties Westmeath, Laois and Kilkenny.
An application for release on bail was made on behalf of Mr Wing.
However, after hearing objections from gardaí, Mr Justice William Hamill remanded Mr Wing in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on 22 October at 10.30am.
Mr Farrell's two sons were in court for this morning's hearing, alongside a small group of neighbours and friends.
