Dublin Airport's Terminal 2 is due to open in the third week of November after a successful ‘live’ trial today.
Some 2,000 volunteer passengers were processed through the multi million euro facility, for the final dress rehearsal before flight operations commence.
Members of the gardaí, customs staff and other agencies also participated.
While no aircraft departed, the volunteers were subject to full check in and security procedures, with the Dublin Airport Authority saying the test went as planned with just a few minor hitches.
Work on the terminal and the accompanying Pier E for aircraft began three years ago and was completed in May at a cost of €600m.
When T2 opens, Aer Lingus, Etihad and four US carriers will operate from it.
Volunteers’ comments on the experience will be used by the DAA to adjust procedures in advance of the official opening.
