The Commercial Court has ordered businessman Harry Crosbie to pay €750,000 to the developers of the Grand Canal Theatre.

The court was told that under the terms of a settlement reached last June, Mr Crosbie had agreed to pay €750,000 to Ramford Ltd.

The company, controlled by Joseph O'Reilly, developed the 2,000-seat theatre that opened last March. It later brought a High Court action claiming Mr Crosbie owed €3m.

The Commercial Court was told today that the deadline for the payment by Mr Crosbie had passed on 1 September and Ramford Ltd was seeking to re-enter the case to enforce the terms of the agreement.

Lawyers for Mr Crosbie said attempts were being made to discharge part of the debt today and asked for a stay on the judgment.

However, Mr Justice Peter Kelly said by not paying the debt he had already had the benefit of a month's delay.
