A man has received a suspended sentence for dangerous driving and reckless endangerment.
Naeem Salem of Castlefield Court, Clonsilla, Dublin, pleaded guilty to nine charges, including dangerous driving and reckless endangerment.
The man led gardaí and a garda helicopter on a high-speed chase through Dublin city centre last year.
The court was told Salem was seen driving a Honda Civic car dangerously on 8 February 2009.
He was followed towards the city centre by a garda patrol car.
The court was told he was going at high speed; he broke several red lights and drove on a pedestrian walkway near St Stephen's Green.
Salem also drove the wrong way up Harcourt Street.
The garda helicopter was called in and gardaí also deployed a stinger to puncture the car tyres and stop it.
Judge Katherine Delahunt said Salem was lucky he did not kill anyone that night but she said a custodial sentence may not be appropriate in this case.
Judge Delahunt imposed a two-year suspended sentence and 200 hours of community service.
She also fined him €1,000 and gave him a four-year driving ban.
The judge warned him that if he was seen driving he would serve his sentence.
