An armed raid on the Ulster Bank in Granard, Co Longford, yesterday is being investigated.

Staff members were locked in a room and one official was assaulted during the raid.

Gardaí said three raiders carrying two knives and a pistol broke into the bank at approximately 4.45pm.

The raiders gathered the staff together and questioned them for up to 25 minutes.

It is understood that one member of staff was struck during a confrontation that followed and suffered minor injuries.

A small amount of cash was stolen.

Gardaí have appealed to the public for their help on the whereabouts of the gang.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the Ulster Bank on Market Street, Granard, between 4pm and 5.30pm yesterday are asked to contact gardaí.
