Donegal - Annual Orange Parade

Over 12,000 people gathered in Rossnowlagh, Co Donegal today for the annual Orange parade, the only such event south of the border.

Fifty lodges and bands from North and South took part in the parade, which passed off peacefully.

Republican slogans protesting at the parade had been painted on roads approaching the seaside town last night.

Grand Chaplain of the Orange order Rev Stanley Gamble said that the good work of President McAleese in making 'Ireland a warm house for Protestants' must be continued.

He also said he had 'no doubt' that Queen Elizabeth would be welcomed as warmly in Ireland as her grandfather King George V was 100 years ago.
