Customs officers and gardaí seized around eight million smuggled cigarettes in Co Meath last night.
The cigarettes had arrived in Dublin Port in a container earlier in the week from Malaysia via Rotterdam.
It was kept under surveillance as it was brought from there to a warehouse near Ashbourne.
Shortly afterwards customs officers, backed up by gardaí, entered the premises and seized the cigarettes.
Custom officials said because the brand of cigarettes is not sold in Ireland, they may have been destined for the UK market.
The seizure is one of the largest so far this year.
Other major seizures include the 10.5m cigarettes seized in Dublin Port last May, while around 28m were seized in Dundalk in February.
