A man who downloaded 1,000 images of children being sexually abused has been jailed for five years at Belfast Crown Court.
Judge Tom Burgess also ordered that 36-year-old David John Hughes, from Tates Avenue, south Belfast, serve a further five years on licence after his release after determining that he poses a serious risk to children in the future.
The court heard that as well as downloading the photographs and movies of children being sexually assaulted, Hughes had swapped the images with other sexual deviants online when talking to them in chatrooms.
Judge Burgess described the content of those conversations as ‘grotesque and disgusting.’
