Two men were rescued after their speedboat capsized in Galway Bay tonight.

The incident occurred midway between Inishmore - the largest of the three Aran Islands - and Rossaveal in Connemara.

The two men were initially taken on board the research vessel The Celtic Explorer and were later transferred to the Aran Islands lifeboat.

A spokesman for the Coast Guard service said they will be taken to hospital in Galway city for observation.
