Two men have died in road crashes in counties Kildare and Limerick.

A 40-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle collision on the Carbury to Edenderry road in Co Kildare at about 6.45am today. He was the driver of one of the cars.

Two people in the other car were taken to hospital for treatment but their injuries are not serious.

The R402 at Coolavacoose remains closed pending a Garda forensic examination and diversions are in place.

A man in his 20s died in a road crash in Limerick at 8.30am today.

The two-car collision happened on the N21 at Barnagh, Newcastlewest. The driver of the second car was injured, although not seriously.

The road was closed for a time but has since re-opened and diversions have been lifted.
