Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern has condemned the rioting by a number of Shamrock Rovers fans at last night's Airtricity League match against Dundalk in Oriel Park.
The Minister, who was among the home supporters in the grounds, has called for the culprits to be identified and banned for life from attending football matches.
He said the events were 'an absolute disgrace' and that some people were truly afraid for their own safety during the riot.
However, he praised the work of the gardaí who restored order to the grounds quickly.
Local gardaí were backed up by mounted police and dog units specially drafted into Dundalk in case there was trouble at the match.
