An 80-year-old farmer has died following an incident at a farm in Co Longford.
It is thought the man was attacked by a bullock on his farm in the Moyne area of north Longford.
The man was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar where he was pronounced dead.
The Health & Safety Authority is investigating this morning's incident.
The man's death brings the number of agricultural fatalities this year to ten.
Last year, 11 people lost their lives in agricultural accidents, compared to 20 in 2008.
Spokesman for the HSA Mark Ryan said this year's figures were not good, especially when only 6% of the workforce is employed in farming.
Mr Ryan pointed out that the summer and autumn months are the busiest on farms and he appealed to everyone to comply with health and safety regulations.
The main cause of deaths are accidents involving tractors and machinery, but attacks by farm animals are also common.
