
Ian Bailey has been granted bail following an appearance before a special sitting of the High Court this afternoon.
Mr Bailey was arrested in Cork on foot of a European arrest warrant from French authorities investigating the murder Sophie Toscan du Plantier in west Cork 14 years ago.
Mr Justice Michael Peart granted Mr Bailey bail and returned the matter to court for Wednesday next
The arrest warrant was executed by detectives from the extradition section at Garda Headquarters last night and Mr Bailey spent 10 hours in custody at Bandon Garda station.
Mr Bailey was arrested at his home near Schull in west Cork just before midnight last night.
This is the third time Ian Bailey has been arrested in connection with the murder of 39-year-old Sophie Toscan du Plantier. She was beaten to death outside her isolated holiday home at Toormore near Schull in west Cork two days before Christmas, 1996.
Mr Bailey has denied involvement in Ms Toscan du Plantier's death.
Two years ago investigating Magistrate Patrick Gachon was appointed by authorities in Paris to conduct his own inquiry under French law into the film maker's death, after the DPP here announced that nobody would be charged arising from the garda investigation.
The arrest warrant was sought by Judge Gachon's investigation.
