Parents are very satisfied with how teachers do their jobs, according to research carried out on behalf of the Teaching Council.

A survey of 1,000 adults carried out by iReach Market Research has found overall positive attitudes towards the profession.

It found that out of 12 professions and occupations referenced in the survey, satisfaction levels for teachers ranked second, after nurses.

Three out of four parents questioned said they believed teachers did their jobs either very well or well. Only 6% said that teachers did their jobs badly or very badly.

When it comes to trust, seven out of ten respondents rated teachers as either very trusted or trusted.

Compared with other professions, levels of trust in teachers came third after doctors and nurses.

The Teaching Council, which is the professional body for teachers, welcomed the findings. CEO Áine Lawlor said it affirmed the 'wonderful work' that teachers did.
