A special memorial Mass for people bereaved by suicide has taken place in Drogheda, Co Louth.

The Mass, organised by local charity SOSAD (Save our Sons and Daughters), was attended by bereaved relatives, emergency services personnel and counselling services.

During the Mass relatives queued to light candles in memory of lost family members.

Psychotherapist Shane Kelly told the congregation not to be surprised by the intensity of their feelings after suicide, including fear, guilt, anger or shame.

He added that the need for grieving must be respected.
