The post mortem of a man who died after an assault in Ennis has been delayed to allow an independent pathologist attend to the victim.

Brian Casey, 26, from Lisseycasey in Co Clare, died from injuries sustained when he was attacked in Ennis on St Stephen's night.

The application for a postponement was made on behalf of two men charged with his assault.

Harry Dinan, 29, of Willowpark Heights in Ennis, and his nephew Kevin Dinan, 22, of Clarehills in Clarecastle, were both charged with assault causing harm to Mr Casey in Ennis on 26 December.

Judge Joseph Mangan agreed to defer the post mortem until tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old woman arrested in connection with the assault on Brian Casey in Ennis on St Stephen's night has been released without charge.
