A security alert led to the evacuation of the Outpatients Department at St James's Hospital in Dublin earlier today.
The alert began when a patient brought a suspect package into the Department and informed hospital staff that it contained an explosive device.
At about 12pm the department was evacuated while gardaí and the bomb disposal unit were called to the scene.
The alert ended when the bomb disposal unit examined the suspect package.
A man is now helping gardaí at Kilmainham Garda Station with their inquiries.
Services at the hospital's department have returned to normal.
