Three people have died in separate road crashes in counties Monaghan, Dublin and Galway.

A man has died after he was knocked down by a car near Emyvale in Co Monaghan at 5.20pm this evening.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Monaghan General Hospital. The woman driving the car was not injured.

A minor road in the townland of Davagh remains closed for an examination.

Earlier, a man in his 20s died in Dublin when his car collided with a van.

The accident happened at Castlecurragh Road in Blanchardstown at 9.20am this morning.

The man was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the van is in a serious condition at the same hospital.

Elsewhere, a 26-year-old woman died in a road crash in Co Galway this morning.

Three men were also injured in the two-car collision, which occurred on the N18 at Moneymore near Oranmore at around 7am.

The woman was a passenger in one of the cars. The driver and another passenger were taken to University College Hospital Galway but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The driver of the other car was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
