A 23-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital after he was shot in Tallaght in Dublin last night.
It is understood the man was in his parent's house when a gunman knocked on the door around 8pm. When the man answered he was shot a number of times with a handgun in the chest and upper body.
He collapsed on the doorstep and was taken to Tallaght hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable.
The area has been sealed off and a team from the Garda technical bureau are to carry out a forensic examination.
Detectives in Tallght are trying to establish a motive for the attack, and have appealed for witnesses and anyone with information to contact them.
It is believed that the victim was not known to Gardaí.
