Eight year sentence for gun possession

A 46-year-old Dublin man who was caught with a loaded Glock semi-automatic pistol has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Ian Dutton of Greenfort Lawns in Clondalkin was arrested after he arrived at a house with a gun in the waistband of his jeans while gardaí were searching for drugs.

Judge Frank O Donnell said that the claims made by Dutton that he was 'stitched up' by the gardaí were not credible.

The Circuit Criminal Court was also told during the course of the trial that the Glock pistol is a favourite for criminals because it was 'designed for concealment'.
